Hi. Now that we downloaded the OVA file, we're going to see how to install it to our VirtualBox. Now, I put my OVA file to my Desktop so that you can see it in a better way, but if you downloaded it anywhere else, just find it. And all we got to do is actually to double click on it. It's pretty easy to install. However, you may experience some issues with it and I'm going to walk you through it, don't worry about it. But before we, go make sure that your VirtualBox is ready. Make sure you installed the extension pack, make sure you created the NAT network that we have done in the previous lectures. Make sure you're ready to go.

Of course you will not see this kind of virtual machines when you first install the VirtualBox, it's okay. Now, we're going to install the Kali Linux and you will see it on the left-hand side. All you got to do is just find your OVA file and double click on it, and will open in the VirtualBox. Here you go. Now, there are a lot of settings over here, we're not going to change anything. Over here, you will see that, where it is going to actually store the machine in your computer.

You may change it if you want. I'm just going to leave it as it is. And under over here, you will see the Mac Address Policy and stuff. I'm not going to change anything, I'm just going to say 'Import', if it asks for like a permission or any kind of license, I'm just going to say 'Agree'. Now, this is going to take a little bit of time, like a couple of minutes and it will be imported into the VirtualBox. So, OVA is a ready-to-go file. There is also another file type called ISO and we're going to see how it works over here in the Bare Metal because we downloaded it from the virtual machines.

So, in the Bare Metal side we have the ISO files in which... We can actually use these ISO files, the ISO files in order to use Kali in our own computers, in our host computers, like a main operating system. However, I would not advise that because you're just getting started with the Kali Linux. You shouldn't actually install it as a real operating system but you should use it like a virtual machine. After you learn, it it's up to you, you can use it as a main operating system as well. That is where Bare Metal comes into play. And in the Bare Metal, we actually have the ISO files, and we're going to see how to install them to the VirtualBox as well in case the OVA files cause you some problems, in the following lectures.

So, right now if you imported it, then it's great. But we're not going to start it immediately. What we're going to do, we're going to select the 'kali-linux' and open the Settings. Once we open the Settings, you will see the name of this Kali Linux. Of course you can change it if you want, you can leave it as it is as well. But over here, we have the 'Type' which is important. If it's not Linux, then make sure you choose the Linux. And if it's not Debian (64-bit), make sure you choose the Debian (64-bit). Of course, if you're using a 32-bit, make sure you choose the Debian (32-bit).

If you are using a 64-bit computer and if you don't see the 64-bit options over here, then it's okay, don't worry. It means that you're going to have to enable virtualization and you're going to have to spend some time to figure out how to do that. And I will walk you through over the steps in the next lecture where we'll discuss what to do if you get any errors during the installation of the Kali Linux. But right now if you see the 64-bit, make sure you choose the 64-bit. Now, if you don't see, just choose the 32-bit right now and follow along with me because that is not the only option that we need to set it up over here.

We're going to set it up our RAM, we're going to set up our CPU allocations and stuff. Make sure you choose Debian, and then over here, over the other tabs, you don't have to just change anything. But if you go to System tab, then you're going to have to do some RAM allocation. So, over here, I have 32 GB of RAM in my own computer, so I can allocate as much as I want. But if you want, you can just go with 1 GB depending on your RAM. So, Kali Linux works with 1 GB of RAM easily. Since I have too much, I will allocate 2 GB.

So, it depends on your system. It's bad to allocate too much, it's bad to allocate too little. So, it starts with 1 GB, and you can actually increase it to 2 GB if you want, depending on your RAM on your own computer. And remember that this is used out of your own RAM, but if you close down, if you shut down the Kali Linux or any virtual machine, then it will be freed. This is one time only, this is only when you're using the virtual machine. So, don't worry about that, it will not drain your general allocations or general hardware in your computer.

So, make sure these Extended Features look like mine. So, 'Enable EFI', 'Enable EFI' is not selected right now. So, I deselected it because if you just make it available, then you may end up in a shell where you cannot get out. So, make sure this is disabled. If you don't see that option, then it's okay. So, let me come back to the Processors over here. Rather than Motherboard, just choose this tab. And as you can see, I have 16 CPUs and I have allocated 2. But you're more than welcome to allocate only one CPU over here. Make sure you do the math for the memory and also the CPU.

In the Display side, we don't have to change anything. In the Storage side, we don't have to change anything over here. This is just to show you where the OVA comes from, where it's saved on your computer. You don't have to change anything in the Audio but you're going to have to change something in the Network. Remember we have created the NAT network when we first installed the VirtualBox. This is where we will actually select that 'NAT Network'. In order to do that, make sure this Network Adapter is enabled, and go to the 'NAT Network'.

Once you choose the NAT Network, go to the 'Advanced' and make sure the Promiscuous Mode is not 'Deny' but 'Allow All'. So, using the NAT Network, we will be able to use Internet in the Kali Linux as well and use that virtual network, which is NAT Network, in the VirtualBox. So, once we use some target machines, like victim machines like Windows and stuff, they will be connected with each other. After you do all of those steps, you can start it by clicking on the 'Start' button, and you can see it starts.

If it doesn't, if you get any error, don't worry about it, we're going to see how to solve it. But if you don't get any error, this is what's going to happen. Once you see the Log In page in the Kali, you're going to have to give some username and password. If you downloaded our own OVA and if you downloaded the original OVA, they will be a little bit different. So, if you downloaded our own OVA, the specific OVA created for this course the user name is 'root' and the password is 't-o-o-r', 'root' and 't-o-o-r'. So, 'root' and 't.-o-o-r'. So, make sure you log in with that, 'root' and the reverse of it, 't-o-o-r'.

If you downloaded at the kali.org, downloaded it from the kali.org, username is 'kali' and password is 'kali'. And make sure you get a little bit hint of your keyboard. If you're using anything other than the English keyboard, you may have to adjust it a little bit. For example, I'm using Turkish keyboard right now and when I type on 'I', it doesn't pop up. So, maybe you will have to just use it a little bit. So, we're going to see how to change the keyboard obviously according to your local settings.

But once you open the Kali Linux, you will see something like this. Again, the background can change. The icons can change in time but the main thing is the commands will be the same, the usage will be the same, the folder system will be the same and that's what it matters. So, if I want, I can close down by choosing the 'Power off the machine' from here. So, if you choose the power off machine, it actually shuts the machine down.

So, over here, we see the other options like saving the machine state, it doesn't actually closes down the machine, but it starts the machine. It starts the machine after you start it where it's left off, but you can close it down. And that's it. That's all you got to do right now. But again, if you've got any errors, then you're going to solve it in the next lecture. And actually, we will have three separate lectures dedicated just for problem solving.
