Once you’ve got a clear strategy in place, a plan for execution and all the right resources in-house, you’ll need to begin with implementation. A well-designed and well-written data strategy is much easier to implement - and if you follow the processes we’ve talked you through so far in this lesson, then you should get significant buy-in from the business.

When you do get started, you’ll want to make a big impact and that’s why you might choose to focus on some quick wins to get yourself going...

A quick win needs to be…well…quick. If it takes around three months or less to achieve then this is ideal. Think small and choose something that you’re certain of being able to deliver as quick fails don’t count! Don’t just go for a project that sounds impressive - think back to the workshops you ran at the beginning of the strategy development process. Choose something from there that can be easily achieved and will kick things off on the right track.

Think about how you can scale the win afterwards into more areas and make sure to share your learnings with the business. Say, for instance, you worked with sales and marketing teams in France to reduce consumer churn by 7% - you could then approach the teams in Mexico and the US, and work with them to achieve similar results.

You should also consider how you can use your quick wins to leverage data initiatives that might be slightly harder to sell in at the beginning. Say you do reduce consumer churn by 7% in France, but you know that had the quality of the data been better, that reduction might have been nearer 15%. This would be a clear opportunity for you to recommend working on data quality throughout your organization.
