The sponsor owns and is accountable for the business case and must ensure that it remains viable throughout the project. The project manager and other subject matter experts may write the business case on behalf of the sponsor. The sponsor should present the business case to senior management for approval.

The business case is the starting point for the project manager to start creating the PMP. If the project manager is not involved in writing the business case, they need to understand the initial expectations that were set before writing the PMP.

There are many different ways that you could approach writing a business case. If you work in an organisation, there may be existing templates that you’ll be required to use, together with processes for doing this. Otherwise, you can find a lot of freely available online resources to use instead.

Examples of completed project management business cases, maybe shared as case studies, for familiar companies and/or organisations.
