People only ever meet on a behavioural level.
When we meet someone, we meet their behaviour, we meet what they say and what they do.

We meet their body language and their actions.

If John, a colleague, is consistently argumentative on a video call, it might be fair for colleagues to say John is mean or rude.

It's irrelevant to us that others say he's a really good guy when you get to know him.

We judge on what we see John say and do, even if we don't directly experience or understand his values, his beliefs, or background.

We only make those assumptions based on the behaviour we experience.

Others will make judgements of us and it will be our behaviour that elicits the reaction.

Once we grasp this fundamental truth of how people relate to each other, we begin to see how we can change the results we get in any human interaction.

As leaders, when we behave one way, we will get one reaction.

Behave a different way and we'll get a different reaction.

And as leaders, remember one thing, we are always on show.
